Grosgrain ribbon effect

Hi All,
For my next cake I wanted to put fondant ribbons on it that look like the grosgrain type. I've read and tried using a bottle top with the lines on them but I can't seem to get it straight or even enough. Has anyone else found a better way?

do you have a ribbed rolling pin?
if you are just after the stitched effect- not the ribbing you can also just use a tracing wheel.

Hi Cakethat, unfortunately I don't and it's exactly what I need. I know it will make everything faster and easier. I've got a tracing wheel for the stitching but also wanted the ribbed look. Can you recommend one?

PME has a ribbed rolling pin- or alternately you could glue a heap of bamboo skewers to a rod and make it so that when you roll it it makes and impression IYKWIM

What about a sushi making mat? Bamboo skewers are stitched together...the stitching on the mats are about 2-3cm apart, so unless you want really wide ribbon, that might work? You can get these mats at the supermarket in the Asian grocery section.
Might not work, but they are quite cheap (and homemade sushi is THE BEST!)

Thanks everyone. I will definitely try those ideas in future. I ended up using my wilton garland marker as it had the exact pattern I was looking for. Just used it like a thin impression mat.

Here is the finished cake I used it on. My first three tier and my first dog.

I don't think that my sushi mat idea would have helped LOL!!!
